Emergency Request for Miguel:

This is a request from Sherri (Miguel's sister)

Hello to all,

Thank you for your support and kindness at this time. I, like you, am devastated by Miguel's death. I am also angry, because he was run over by the so called lifeguards of the beach who were racing around on their jet skis instead of doing their jobs. I am going through the arduous process of declaring this a homicide in Playa del Carmen in an attempt to prevent anyone else from dying in this manner. This is not the first time that these "lifeguards" kill someone. About 5 years ago they ran over a 5 year old boy and his relative. They routinely drive around on their jet skis drunk. Nothing was or has been done due to the overwhelming corruption in this little town.

In order for the authorities to take this investigation seriously there needs to be pressure from the US consulate. The US consulate, being a governmental agency will only push for a complete investigation if they are pressured by their bosses, the US congress. This is where I need your immediate help. As you know, Miguel never left a place without making it a little better. In death I would like for his legacy to be that he leaves Playa del Carmen a little safer. For that to happen the authorities need to be pressured to make some changes.

Please!

Write to your congressman demanding that the consulate in Merida push for a complete investigation into Miguel's death. You can copy the US consulate in Merida as well. Please forward this letter to all of his friends.

If each and everyone of you do this today, then the chances that they investigate Miguel's death are much greater. If not, it will be buried in the compadrismo of a small corrupt municipality and Miguel will have died in vain.

Sherri
